About
Us
Psalm
90:1 Lord, you have been a shelter throughout all
generations.
Shelter
is used throughout the Bible as an image (refuge, sanctuary,
hiding place, dwelling) to paint a picture of how God loves
and compassionately cares for His people. We like the name
Shelter because we have been sheltered by God’s love
in so many ways. We also embody and become a shelter in many ways for
the world that He loves.

Our
Roots
Shelter is a multi-denominational community of believers from many backgrounds. While Shelter is an autonomous church, we have received much needed support from and are associated with the Evangelical Covenant Church.
The Evangelical Covenant Church has its roots in historical Christianity as it emerged in the Protestant Reformation, in the Biblical instruction of the Lutheran State Church of Sweden, and in the Great Spiritual awakenings of the 19 th Century.
The Covenant Church adheres to the affirmations of the Protestant Reformation regarding the Old and New Testament, as the Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct. It has especially cherished:
The New Testament emphasis upon personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
The reality of fellowship of believers which recognizes but transcends theological differences
The belief in baptism and the Lord Supper as divinely ordained sacraments of the church
The principle of personal freedom, so highly esteemed by the Covenant, is to be distinguished from the individualism that disregards the centrality of the Word of God and the mutual responsibilities and disciples of the spiritual community.
At Shelter, we desire to unite persons of all ages in fellowship and worship in an environment where faith may grow. We seek to provide opportunities for mission and service which enable people to use the gifts God has given them. We welcome into this community all who confess Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
